Analysing Advertisements

Today in class we analysed 4 adverts. These were Winston Cigarettes from 1960, Coca Cola from 1971, Centrum Performance from 2002 and Apple Mac from 2006. To analyse these adverts we wrote down what we could see in the advert. This was followed by the Sound FX, the text used and the message they are trying to portray and get across. We then compared the adverts and saw that most of them use false advertising to promote their products. This was used in the Winston Cigarettes, Coca Cola and Centrum Performance adverts to make it look as though their products are good for us when indeed we know that they are not. Our class then discussed how companies use advertising to sell their products nowadays and we found that many use humour or a recognisable character such as the 'opera singer' from the Go Compare adverts to draw the audience in and eventually buy the product if it is well advertised.
